Portage la Prairie Library held the second sowing of Winter Wheat Literary Festival March 17. Local published writers, Terri Todd, Sharon Arksey, and Donna Gamache, shared on the topic, ‘How To Fit Writing into Your Life”. The day ended with Bartley Kives speaking about his books and truthfully answering many ‘off the topic’ questions we fired at him. My workshop on ‘Integrity: Writing your Own Truth’ was allotted 1 1/4 hours before lunch and 1 1/2 hours after lunch. Twenty writers gathered around the tables and after identifying ourselves we settled in to think about our own identity and how to express it in our writing. Everyone participated in the exercises that I called tiny seeds that could grow into something special; or maybe remain as unique seeds for future reference. I had been nervous about taking on the facilitator’s role, but I shouldn’t have worried. By the time we ended I was truly inspired by the groups’ response. I am more than willing to offer my leadership again. As the post on Facebook stated it was ‘an awesome day at the library’. Thank you librarian Lori Mackedenski for your creation of an awesome day.
