The Whistler Book Award was my reason to travel to BC and it was a mountain-top experience. We dodged the bad weather and drove directly to Whistler and enjoyed one sunny day there to explore before the weather closed in. We met and listened to famous and not so famous writers, and felt well rewarded in spite of the fact that For Elise did not win the award. Sunday afternoon we packed up and headed for a meeting with a boy not seen since school days. We travelled to school in a horse drawn van eight miles with lots of talk about whose father had the best tractor or cowboy singer. He moved to BC after a truck accident and built himself a thriving business which included owning a small plane. I was enthralled as he described the challenges of flying between the mountain ranges. What a difference in life experiences of two farm kids.
