Time flies: Last June I underwent knee surgery. It was painful, but I recovered. March 1 of this year I was fortunate to receive another new knee, and by June was looking forward to the summer’s events. I was even well enough to get up and down the stairs in our home without too much trouble. Unfortunately, I forgot to be cautious, and at bedtime in going down for a glass, I missed the bottom step. Gravity took over and I landed with a thud on the hardwood floor. In an instant my hope for summer freedom had vanished. The pain was unbelievable! The ambulance came soon and the fellows were wonderfully gentle. They stayed with me at the Grace until a bed in the hall was found and there I stayed overnight. It was a good place as the many people passing back and forth helped to distract me from the pain. Fortunately the surgeon took pity on me, and operated the next afternoon. By seven o’clock I was in a bed, in a room, with a brand new hip. Now after wonderful care at the Grace and following for rehab at Deer Lodge Center, I am home. My knees did not do well without exercise, but they do hold me up, and allow me to enjoy what is left of the summer. My son took me to the Criddle Vane Park for their annual gathering Aug 17, and I have hope for other opportunities to get out and about.
My appreciation for the dedicated doctors and nursing staff who made my recovery possible is a blessing that an old woman of times passed could never imagine. How thankful I am to live long enough to experience such miracles of healing.
