On a trip west I stopped in at the Criddle/Vane Homestead Park to spend some quiet time at Elise’s grave. I had with me some dried flowers to replace the wreath I had placed there last summer. To my delight someone had already removed my contribution replacing it with these lovely red roses. I appreciate their care and would like to know who the thoughtful person was and enable me to thank them personally.
My father would be thankful that we honour the grandmother he loved as a child. Keeping my promise to him about finding out who she was has been not only challenging, but wonderfully rewarding. My retirement years have been exceptional, and now over ninety, I must get my material to the archives before I expire. Archives of four counties (Canada, England, Germany and Austria) made uncovering the truth of Elise’s life possible.
